Residential Mentor

Summary-Works with residents to develop life skills for independent living

Develop positive relationships with students to engage and encourage the development of life skills.
Provide emergency first aid and summon medical assistance when necessary.
Mediate interpersonal problems between residents and communicate with other staff.
Counsel students in the handling of issues such as family, financial, and educational problems.
Make regular rounds to ensure that residents and areas are safe and secure.
Manage maintenance requests; determine the need for facility maintenance or repair and ensure that maintenance is completed in a timely manner.
Plans and implements weekend activities.
Provide support and handle escalated student issues using de-escalation techniques and other strategies.
Maintain the confidentiality of student health information; ensure staff provide student support while maintaining their confidentiality.
Provide opportunities for students to learn, practice, and master skills that allow them to participate more fully in social, school, and work activities.
Participate in meetings and training as needed.
Maintain monthly communication with Parent/guardian.
Document contact with families in parent communication log.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Pursuing bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Education or related field.
Interpersonal Skills: Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict, maintaining confidentiality, relationship building and teamwork.
Active Listening and Communication skills both verbal and written
Social Perceptiveness: Awarenesss of others' reactions and understanding
Other Skills and Abilities: Able to quickly respond and adapt to challenging, fast-paced and dynamic environments
Strong planning and organizational skills
